WE left on Feb 9 to travel to Port of Miami to board the Jewel of the Sea on Royal Caribbean Cruise lines. It was a warm day.

We found our cabin and took a walk around the ship.

This was in the Safari Club bar. It was made out of wood and you know how much I love giraffes.

This is what some of the buildings in Cartagena, Columbia look like. Very gingerbread looking.

Each night our room attendant would make an animnal out of towels and put it on our bed.

This is an elephant with Hewitt's glasses on.

Not a great pictures, but these are the dancer with local colors. The were moving so fast I had trouble taking the pictures.

We enter the Panama Canal at 6:00 in the morning. I was up on deck taking pictures with about 500 other people. Put it was really impressive.

The Panama Canal is a lock type canal. It unites the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans at the narrowerst point of the Isthmus of Panama. The Canal offically opened to international trade on August 15, 1914 and since then, has had more than 970,000 vessels transited the waterway.

There are three sets of locks each of which has two lanes, and operates as water lifts to elevate ship above sea level to the level of Gatun Lake. We only went through the three locks and went into the Gatun lake. We did not transit to the miraflores lake and locks to go into the Pacific. The ship turned around and went back through the same locks and back to the Caribbean.

These are some of the locks of the Canal.
